Amos The Riverside
Amos looked around, feeling electricity spark inside of his modified body. He had escaped the black-coats several years ago and now he could finally be at peace. However, Amos was still terrified at the thought of being found and dragged back to 'The Institute'. "I'm hungry..." He uttered as his stomach growled. Amos decided to try and find something to eat, so he went over to the edge of the river to try and catch some fish.

A slender horse, about fourteen hands high at the wither and a beautiful sandy-brown color, had been grazing at the edge of the riverside. Her mane and tail were black, and her eyes dark brown. These eyes turned to look at the strange creature who had come to fish. Lowering her head, about to drink water, she let out a soft snort. She stared for a bit, taking in Amos's yellow and black colors. Then –
"Hello," she said warily – being a horse, she was quite nervous and flighty. "Hungry? Do you eat grass? I have plenty to share," she continued. It did not occur to her that a Pokemon who caught fish probably did not eat grass.

Amos The Riverside
Amos looked at the animal before looking at the river. "Sorry," He replied. "I don't eat grass, but thanks for the offer." He added and swiped a paw into the water. He pulled out a moderatley large cherry salmon and then gathered a few twigs together and piled them together. Then he broke the neck of the fish, pushed it onto a large stick and looked at the wood. "Stand back," He warned the horse and felt electricity pulse through his claws, he flicked a claw at the wood and a little spark came out, lighting the wood. Amos propped the fish on the stick up above the fire to let it cook. "I'm Amos, by the way." Amos added. "What's your name?" he asked.

The dun horse had watched all this in silent awe. Never before had she seen any animal catch a fish so easily, and then set fire to the wood to cook it. She had never even heard of cooking before.
When Amos told her to stand back, she knew that something weird was going to happen. She quickly retreated, her head held high and nervously flicking her tail.
Still staring from the cooking cherry salmon to the Zangoose, she said, "Sandra. My name is Sandra."
She ought to be used to strange creatures, living in a place like The Weird Lands, but she was relatively young and inexperienced, and had not come across anybody quite so bizarre. Indeed she thought the amazement would never wear off.

Amos The Riverside
Amos nodded and looked at the sizzling fish, it would be a little while before it was ready to eat.
Knowing Amos, he had all the time in the universe.
"Sandra, nice to meet you." He replied and looked up at the sky. "This place is nice," He continued. "There isn't a sign of an evil human or creature here." He said, recalling the Institute sadly.

Sandra knew little about what exactly Amos was, so she didn't know that the Pokemon had many lifetimes to live. She finally tore her eyes away from the fish, looking only at Amos now. "You, too," she said. She was still wary, afraid that Amos would use whatever he had used to set fire to the twigs and set fire to her, as well.
"It is," she said in response to Amos's comment. She was observant and alert, usually for danger, and she picked up his sadness. "I have not been disturbed by evil for a long time – I think it is the winter that keeps others at home – so do not worry." Inquisitively she added, "What saddens you?"

Amos The Riverside
Amos looked at Sandra. "Well..." he began, unsure of what to say. "I came from a place, far away from here," He began. "It was called 'The Institute' and it was a lab used for genetically modifying Pokemon like me," he followed on. "I was the first in a long line of experements and I used my skills to help other Pokemon escape." He continued.
Amos then showed the back of his left shoulder.
"I got many wounds from helping others," he explained. "but then one day some people in black uniforms came and started making other pokemon evil," He recalled bitterly. "I helped several pokemon escape, but I know that somewhere these pokemon could be hunting for me." He finished. "I'm troubled, Sandra." Amos stated. "I hope I didn't scare you by telling you this story." he apologised and took the well-cooked fish off of the stick. He bit into it and savoured the watery flesh. Then he got a leaf and soaked it with water and placed it on the fire, putting the fire out.

Sandra absorbed all this quietly, thinking it over. "Pokemon," she murmured quietly, trying on the name for size. So that was what Amos was. Being genetically modified sounded scary to her, so she didn't ask the Zangoose-Reiko cross what it was like. She shied away slightly in fear at the sight of Amos's scars.
"I think you are brave for helping others," she said, trying to comfort him a little. Some of her wariness was lost now – if Amos had wanted to hurt her, he'd have done it sooner. He was certainly able to.
She watched him eat the fish, wondering why he did so. She thought grass was the tastiest thing in the world. She rummaged around in her head for something to say to comfort Amos, but came up short. She couldn't say that his story hadn't scared her – it had. So she made a promise to do the only thing she could.
"I'll help, if you want," she said cautiously. "I don't think I'm a match for these Pokemon you talk about, but... I don't know." She faltered here, feeling helpless. She wanted to trust Amos, and help him, but she was scared, as well.
((OOC – Sorry I took so long ><))

Amos The Riverside
Amos dipped his head in genuine thanks. "Thank you." He replied. "No matter how tiny the helping hand can be," He recited from words that a friend gave him. "It is still enough to strengthen the someone who needs it." He finished. "You don't know how much this means to me." Amos said and used the leaf to cool himself down as a fan.

Sandra felt the beginnings of trust, the wariness and fear ebbing away slowly as Amos's aura gave out nothing but friendliness. Her fight-or-flight instinct was fading now, the maybe was there. Maybe he's not going to eat me.
No matter how tiny the helping hand can be, it is still enough to strengthem the someone who needs it. She thought this over, committing the phrase to memory, because somehow she just knew she should.
Now she felt awkward, so she asked questions, quite curious about her new acquaintance-friend. "Where do you normally stay?" she asked, wondering why she had never met him before. Surely he must have come to the Riverside before, to drink or fish.

Amos The Riverside
"Anywhere." Amos replied. "Anywhere that's good enough to sleep, I usually don't sleep in the same place each night for protection." He explained and came over to Sandra slowly so she wouldn't feel scared. "But I do return here every day to get food and water." Amos said and sat down next to Sandra, allowing the water to cover his feet calmly.

"That's strange," Sandra said. "I've never seen you here before." Then she realized that this was because she was farther down the river than usual. She'd come here because the grass upstream had been completely frosted over, almost inedible.
She thought about what Amos had said, about not sleeping in the same place each night for protection. This had never occurred to her before. She, like all other horses, was a creature of habit and regularity and familiarity. She liked conventional ways, solid, reliable routines to follow.
Her brown eyes watched the water lap over the Pokemon's feet. She remembered how electricity had sparked from Amos's claws and wondered what was happening to the fish inside, if water conducted electricity. "How did you make fire like that?" she asked. More questions. She was so curious about Amos.

Amos The Riverside
Amos had never been asked the questions about his abilities before. He pondered for a moment. "Well..." He began, unsure of what to say. "I was born like this, however I was originally meant to be a normal Zangoose," He began. "The lab scientists combined me with legendary pokemon DNA," He explained. "The DNA of a legendary pokemon called Raikou." He finished. "I can wield electricity as a result, and I can use it to create fire or thunderstorms." He added. Amos was now sure that Sandra would trust him, not completely, but enough to make a good friend.

Originally meant to be. It sounded so strange. Unnatural. Sandra suppressed another shudder.
"So there are other... normal Zangoose?" she asked hesitantly. She hoped her question wouldn't offend Amos. She had many other questions on her mind, and suddenly she blurted them all out awkwardly. "You don't know why they combined you with a Raikou? You can create fire or thunderstorms?!"
She was truly scared of this particular part. Horses did not like thunderstorms, and they did not like fire. She ran furiously from both.

Amos The Riverside
"Yes," Amos replied. "Other pokemon reject me because I'm different." He explained and heard Sandra blurt out something he really didn't want to hear. "Well..." He answered. "I can create and control both thunderstorms and fire, so if I have to do that sort of thing then I never allow it to harm my friends." He reassured. Then Amos looked around, making sure that no other creatures were watching them. "I can make all kinds of lightning," Amos added." Sheets of lightning, jagged lines and even different coloured lightning!" He explained, hoping this would help Sandra relax a little bit.
